Mission:
The Fleet Mechanic at A-C Electric Company plays a critical role in ensuring the continuous operation and safety of our fleet of vehicles and equipment. With a focus on maintaining high standards of quality and reliability, Fleet Mechanic will provide expert maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs to support the efficient execution of our electrical construction projects. Through proactive upkeep and timely service, this role is essential to minimizing downtime, optimizing performance, and ensuring that our team can deliver on its commitment to safety, efficiency, and excellence in every project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on a variety of fleet vehicles and construction equipment, including electrical service trucks, bucket trucks, trailers, and heavy machinery, ensuring they are in safe and operational condition.
- Diagnostics and Repairs: Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues and perform necessary repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, electrical systems, and other vehicle components.
- Preventive Maintenance Programs: Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize breakdowns and ensure that all fleet assets meet safety and compliance standards.
- Emergency Repairs: Respond to urgent repair needs in the field, including roadside assistance and emergency fixes during construction projects to minimize downtime.
Additional Duties:
- Equipment Upgrades and Modifications: Assist with equipment upgrades, modifications, and custom installations to ensure fleet vehicles meet the specific demands of electrical construction projects. Welding and fabrication as needed.
- Safety Inspections: Conduct regular safety inspections on vehicles and equipment to ensure compliance with industry regulations and company safety protocols.
- Develop Others: Train and develop other personnel in shop to perform routine maintenance, and diagnose standard problems.

Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical or vocational training in automotive or diesel mechanics is preferred.
- ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications or similar credentials are highly beneficial.
- CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) may be required for operating larger vehicles.
- Organized with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Four (4) years of experience as a mechanic, preferably working with a fleet of vehicles or heavy equipment.
- Experience with hydraulic systems, electrical systems required.
- Previous experience working with construction-related vehicles, such as bucket trucks, boom trucks, and trailers, is a plus.
- The work environment and physical demands required would be representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, and may include, but are not limited to the following:
- This role routinely uses construction equipment such as heavy machinery, hand and power tools
- While performing duties of the job the employee may work aloft, climb, bend, pull, reach overhead, stand/walk for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs
- Frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms
- May work in varying temperatures; both inside and outside, including inclement weather, heat, humidity, cold, and dampness
- May work in areas with exposure to moderate/high noise levels
- May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including dust
- May be required to work in confined spaces or from high heights
Pay Range: $35.00 – $50.00 an hour. Pay may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this job may also include other elements depending on the position offered.
